Library, College of Health Sciences
University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences Library received a donation of journals from the German Regional Embassy in Nairobi on 29th July, 2015.
Prof. Walter Mwanda, the Director of the Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (UNITD) received the journals from Dr. G. Boeck on behalf of the College Principal Prof. Isaac Kibwage. He said he was grateful for Dr. Boeck’s good gesture and donation that will increase reading material for the college.
He was impressed with the topics of the journals, which he said were of common interests, especially in tropical diseases that have continued to take center stage in the today world.
He said it is becoming hard for institutions to get reading materials because of patent rights, cost and accessibility, adding that the donation was the beginning of the journey of cooperation between the German Embassy and the college.
He revealed that plans are underway to establish a virtual library that will mainly focus on tropical and infectious diseases at UNITID.
On his part, Dr. Boeck, who is a Doctor of Medicine, said he was grateful of the partnership with the college, adding that he looks forward to have it strengthened. Dr. Boeck, who has compiled the journals for the last 17 years, promised to get more for the college by the end of the year.
Present during the event were Ms. Angela Mumo, the Acting College Librarian. She promised to keep the journals well for the benefit of students and researchers.Also present were the College Registrar Mr. Joseph Waigwi, his deputy Mr. James Ireri and the other library staff.
